First Coast Iron owner Jason Gouker
Get to know the man behind the iron.
The Birth of FCI
A few years ago, Jason decided to try his hand at restoring two cast iron skillets his late father-in-law had gifted him. They went from neglected to frequent users, and a new hobby was discovered! He began restoring cookware for friends and family, and even collecting cast iron himself. When a neighbor suggested Jason try selling his hand-restored pieces at local markets, he found a captive audience and clientele who were looking for forever cookware to add to their kitchens. And First Coast Iron (FCI) was born!
The name First Coast Iron is a nod to where the business is located. The state of Florida has 12 named coastlines and "The First Coast" is a regional nickname given to the part of Northeast Florida along the Atlantic Coast. It is home to the oldest continually-inhabited, European-established city in the continental United States.
Jason primarily focuses his skills on restoring cast iron cookware made in American foundries. His personal favorite is Birmingham Stove & Range, the Red Mountain series. The collections he brings to local markets include modern, vintage, and antique cookware.
Jason lives in Saint Augustine, Florida with his wife, Amy (who is the FCI Digital Specialist and Marketing Manager), and is the proud father of three daughters and two calico cats.
